Zoledronic acid (brand name Reclast) is a bisphosphonate infusion used to strengthen bone and reduce fracture risk in patients with osteoporosis or related bone conditions. At Scottsdale Rheumatology Center, zoledronic acid infusions are given in our in-house infusion suite by specially trained nurses under physician supervision.
Zoledronic acid infusions are commonly prescribed for:
Zoledronic acid is typically infused over about 15 to 30 minutes, once a year for osteoporosis treatment (or every two years for prevention, depending on your bone density results). Our nursing staff monitors you during and after the infusion, and physicians review your bone density scans to guide ongoing care.
Before your zoledronic acid infusion, our team checks your kidney function and calcium levels, as these are important safety considerations for this therapy. Our nurses monitor you during the infusion for any reactions. Discuss the full risks and benefits with your physician.
Zoledronic acid infusion therapy is covered by most major insurance plans, including Medicare, when medically indicated. Visit our Health Insurance page for more details.
